Update Following 2022 AGM
Last week Floorball New Zealand held our annual general meeting to update our clubs on the actions and developments of Floorball New Zealand over the past year. We also took the oppurtunity to hear from and inform clubs about the challenges and oppurtunities facing the sport going forward. In summary, Covid-19 continued to limit Floorball New Zealand at the beginning of the financial year but, as restrictions were lifted, we made a big return to domestic and international competition. One positive that was highlighted during the meeting was that both our player base and membership at the club level have continued to grow despite the pandemic, something that has not been the case for many countries.
This was a significant AGM as we saw the departure of some key figures from the committee including Rob Campell, Jane Bertschinger, and Annie Blomgren. All attendees thanked them for their many years of work and acknowledged the positive impact that they have had on the sport’s development in New Zealand.
We also appointed several new members to the committee including Angus Stallmann as our club liaison, and Sian Macfadyen as competitions’ manager. Notably, there were no nominations for President which leaves the role vacant until a suitable candidate makes themselves known to the committee. In the mean time vice president Andre Ballantyne will be acting president.
Outgoing president Rob Campbell emphasised the continued challenges facing floorball in his remarks stating that no matter how well our players perform on the field, we need more engagement in support roles at all levels and engagement with Floorball New Zealand efforts to sustain growth and improvement. Clubs were also encouraged to continue registering players for the current financial year, even if this is just with a social license for the nominal fee of 1$. An accurate picture of player bases is important for both FNZ and clubs when pursuing funding and publicity for our game.
