New Zealand entered a women's team into the World Floorball Championship Qualifications for the first time in 2015. Having never really played against many women's teams, this tournament was set to be an invaluable experience and a real challenge. The qualification tournament was held on 22-25 January in Pakenham, Australia with four teams vying for three spots at the 10th Women's World Floorball Championships in Tampere, Finland, in December 2015.

Facing their strongest opponents in their final game, NZ really stepped up the intensity against Japan. Touted as the best game of the tournament by some, it was an exciting finish with NZ making the tournament winners work hard for their goals. The second period of the game was the only goalless period of the entire tournament and goalkeeper Maria Hegarty again made an incredible 49 saves!

Despite coming away without a win, the NZ team never gave up and will take a lot of positives from this event. 2015 has seen huge developments in women's floorball in New Zealand, with more women involved in the sport and more playing at a competitive level which is a great sign for the future.
