The NZ Men’s U19 team, coach, manager and entourage have all arrived safely in Japan and are settled into their accommodation for the tournament. The Australian Men’s U19 team are staying in the same hotel, so no doubt there will be some banter in the lobby ahead of their game on Sunday.
So far the food has been better than expected (especially the desserts!) with everyone finding something they can eat. A slight language barrier has led to some extra fitness for the support crew on their supermarket missions, for team food supplies, as they have yet to decipher the buses. No doubt they will be pro’s by the time they leave!
The boys had a team trip to Fuji Q roller coaster park yesterday, unfortunately long queues meant they only had time for a few rides but it was fun/scary break before getting back into training mode.
The team spent an hour training with some young players from a local Japanese floorball club, before their team training session. Both the locals and the NZ team had lots of fun and enjoyed the experience. This was a great opportunity to help foster the continual growth of floorball by inspiring young players and also a chance for the NZ team to interact with the local community which is awesome to see.
In the evening they had dinner and a well-earned rest back at the hotel. The temperature has been relatively warm so far, there hasn’t been much rain, and they even managed to see the top of Mount Fuji briefly when the mist lifted.
Stay tuned for more photos and updates, thanks to our insiders on the ground in JPN.
